My proposed end to the episode "Gordon Kemp"

If Reddington is going to start preaching gun control and criminalizing gun manufacturers, here is my response, with an alternate ending to "Gordon Kemp":

Pretend the actual final scene with Raymond and Elizabeth had happened earlier in the show. The show instead ends with the scene of Red giving his sanctimonious speech to Gordon before shooting him, and that’s how the show ends. Well, not quite…

Having shot Kemp in the heart and gut, Reddington gets up and walks over to deliver a head shot to finish him off. Before he gets there, he suddenly finds a gun pointed at his head - held by Harold Cooper.

HC: Drop the gun, or I will blow your head off.
RR: I suppose you would.
(Raymond tosses the gun away)
HC: Let’s go
RR: What about him?
HC: He’s just unconscious. He’ll be okay. I have my own cleaners with me.

(Cut to later on with Cooper in his car driving back with Raymond in the passenger seat.)
RR: I suppose he had a vest on.
HC: Solid Kevlar.
RR: I never was a fan of starting with a head shot in cases like this. Too quick and easy.
HC: Kemp thought he was helping us take you out. I’ll make him think you’re captured and in some black hole somewhere. Meantime, your campaign against him ends here – or usefulness or not, I’ll personally sent you back to prison.
RR: He deserved to die, Harold. He might as well have pulled the trigger on Sofia himself.
HC: That’s very ironic – coming from you.
RR: I don’t follow you.
HC: You should have let it be, Reddington. Maybe I would have spared you this!
RR: (casually) What? Are you going to have me waterboarded now?
HC: When we first started this case, we were in a hurry to cover up your involvement in the shooting. So much so that we didn’t really look at all the evidence reports until just a few hours ago. (Pause) Remember how their first theory was that Martell was shot by an accomplice?
RR: Sure. Because he didn’t shoot himself obviously.
HC: (Rhetorically) But why didn’t they think he was shot by some vigilante who didn’t want to stick around? Wouldn’t that have been just as likely?
RR: I take it there was some other evidence for the former theory.
HC: There was. Martell’s gun was full of blanks.
RR: What? That’s crazy.
HC: Not really. He probably knew he was a hothead and didn’t want to risk getting the death penalty for losing his temper. For all the good that did him.
RR: But I saw him shoot Sofia; I saw her fall.
HC: Even a blank cartridge has a discharge; It was powerful enough to knock her off her feet. And then you and Dembe opened fire on him to take him out – a little overkill. Only one of your bullets missed him. It ricocheted off a display case and went down at an angle toward the floor.
RR: You mean…?
HC: That’s right, Reddington. Martell didn’t kill that girl! You did!
