So many reviews are confused about the "immunity" of the bad survivors, when it's very obvious why!

When reading through the reviews after seeing the movie, I couldn't believe that so many people didn't know why the survivors who wanted to reveal evil (the non-blindfolded) were immune from dying. It seems like a majority of people missed the hint as to why.

Even though it was a hint, I thought this was very obvious in the movie, but maybe it's not. So I'm going to outlay the scene with the core hint, followed by my take on how this fits into the greater meaning of the film.

1.
When they're in the supermarket and hear from Charlie's friend in the loading dock (can't remember his name), he clearly said that he "made a deal with them to stay alive" or something along those lines.

The point is, HE MADE A DEAL.

This is the key fact that I think most people are glossing over. If so, they missed that Charlie's friend was kept alive solely to lure other innocent people to their deaths! Once you get this, then you understand how everyone else was granted immunity, including the outsider and the psychos driving around in cars, etc.

2.
How does this fit into the greater overall story arc, of what is behind the end of the world?

Let's say that for the sake of arguments that the element that was terrorizing the earth was demons. Again, Charlie was a major link in the viewer piecing together the explanations behind the whole movie. This time in what caused the end of the world.

For want of a better word, let's call it demons. Plain and simple. Charlie exists in the story to try to normalize this explanation, in the way that he explains that all common pagan beliefs or religions have this element, but the semantics of the words aren't important. What is important, is the understanding that they were essentially demons.

Now, we don't know for what reason demons were all of a sudden given permission to run rampant around the earth, and why they couldn't enter inside (perhaps it's like a vampire thing where they can't go inside without being invited). But we do know from the Charlie character, and from the hint from his friend, that they were demonic. This makes sense in why it was usually cowardly or wicked people who were granted "immunity" from dying, as they're more susceptible to making a deal with the devil (or whatever your religion or belief wants to call it).

In a religious context, cowards or evil people are more concerned with staying alive. Religious people tend to view their time on earth with a single purpose of helping people and spreading the message of love.

For this reason, religious people don't tend to fear death as much as cowards, as they see earth as already being broken, and the afterlife is the better place. By contrast, cowards and evil people tend to fear death because they view the earth as the only component to existence.

This fits into the theme of the story of why Lydia was so selfless and unafraid to help Malorie, and why Douglas was so afraid of dying and angry that Lydia was dead, and why the non-blindfolded were tyrants. I hope that clears up some confusion.

I thought that the 'seers', to use that word, were just people who were already insane, so the 'presence', to use another word, didn't have the same effect on them.

On a scale of 1-10, what do you think your reading comprehension is?

That was my take also.

cool text but ...

... the immunity crew were just simpletons and loonies

Psychopaths arent cowards, its only shown and mentioned that the criminal insane were immune, so it cant be just evil people they have to be kinda looney as well like Gary.

btw I dun agree on the fear of death being the resaon for immunity, all sane people fear death in some capacity so I think the psychos have no such fear thus they were sorta immune to those creatures/beings.

Really? Religious people fear death less than non-religious people... So no religious people are cowards? So why do some of the so-called religious people spend most of their lives living up to some doctrine about how they should live their life so they won't be punished when they die?
