Fairest of Them All... Mutiny on the Bounty?
I'm struck by the parallels between this episode and the Mutiny on the Bounty story.
-Harsh captain, compassionate first officer in a moral struggle for the ship...
-each has bodyguards and the crew take sides, scrambling for weapons and 'safe' areas of the ship...
-both stories involve the influence of 'primitive' cultures which trigger the conflict (albeit in different ways)... the Tahitians show the Bounty crew an example of an idyllic life and mutual respect, while the Halkans are an example of peace and cooperative negotiation...
-ultimately the first officer wins, trying to establish an environment of respect...
-the captain and a handful of supporters are set adrift in a small lifeboat with enough supplies to get to a local port (though in the Bounty, the local port is not receptive and they have to make a long journey without supplies).
