This movie ends either one of three ways

Really hoping it isn't as simple as that because that is exactly the same conclusion I drew. However, it looks promising enough to give it a shot, and if there is a twist or element of the story we aren't seeing, I hope it doesn't muddy the plot to the point of it being a "it was great, but don't try and think about it too much or it won't make sense" kind of film.

Maybe Stackhouse's wife did commit suicide and maybe Walter was smiling because he had a great ending to his novel and he lived and finally wrote it; thus the typed "The End" was typed by him? Just a thought.

What the heck is "mentally insane?" Is there another type of insane? Can one be "physically insane?" Or is this like "irregardless" and is some bizarre merger of "mentally ill" and "insane?"
