I feel like I SHOULD be, but it feels like cotton candy without sugar or flavor

Given it was a non event I don't see who it would appeal to especially now. Maybe back in the day, sure. But now it is non memory for a lot of people.
shareHave you actually watched the trailer?
shareI have and I know they are going with a scenario where things do go wrong but it is still based on a non event. They could have used the same idea and applied to a fictional event in the current day.
shareI think a main objective of the film is for it to be a nostalgia piece for the late-90s. I haven't seen it but what I've read suggests there are a lot of cultural references to that time period. Obviously that wouldn't work if it was set in the present day.
shareSince it was indeed a non-event, perhaps they should have gone about the story differently. People over reacting in fear of Y2K in the days prier to it, causing a huge mess, only to realize at the turn of the year it was all for nothing. They could've had the nostalgia thing going but we wouldn't have to pretend that the end of the world happened 25 years ago.
shareThat would have been a better and more realistic idea. There was a lot of fear leading up to it and people were encouraged to prep for it by stocking up on items just in case the world stopped. You focus on a community where perhaps just after midnight the power goes out for unrelated reasons and people start to go berserk for example.
sharethat would have been the fun of this, if done well, we get to laugh at the hysteria etc
Gen Z to see what all the fuss was about.
shareNot me.
Hate the three main actors.
I went to go see it because I've enjoyed Kyle Moony's other work and like horror comedies.
It was pretty bad and considering the theater wasn't even a quarter full today doesn't seem like many are interested either.
