Did Brolins character see the future? Had Dole already announced his running mate in March 1996?
shareHe clearly had magical 'Murica powers. Didn't you see him will himself back to life long after most had already died as he stumbled back into camp like a zombie :) ? It seemed bizarre to me, but I guess it was a cool plot moment, the way the story had stayed away from him for a bit. His character was such a mixed bag for me. I hate the "cocky xenophobic meat headed Texan" character archetype as much as any trope, but if it's based on a real person, who knows exactly how accurate the portrayal and writing are? Script wise, it was very exaggerated early on, but they reined the character in and made him more respectable later in the film.
shareIt is based on a real person, and having read the original Krakauer book, "Into Thin Air," it seems like a reasonably accurate portrayal. I live in Texas and I know guys like him. I actually kind of like his "character arc" in the movie. Works for me.
