Mary & Greer... how odd
Seriously, Mary doesn't know that Greer is pregnant? How can that be? Not to mention the fact that her belly is quite big.

shareYeah but they always wear those big dresses so it hides it well. I'm wondering if Greer really wants to stay because she's pregnant or because of her business like she said.
shareI bet it's a combination of both since she's held onto the business in spite of Leith's request...but it more so seemed to be about the baby since she specifically asked Mary if she could wait until summer.
shareI think they made a point of keeping Greer behind the counter during her discussion with Mary to further disguise it. The dresses they wear would keep it hidden for a long time too, but she had the double shield of the dress and the bar. I couldn't tell she was pregnant in that scene and I knew to look for it.
shareWonder how long Mary hadn't seen her...
Also, why would Greer keep this a secret from Mary? Have I forgotten something?
Mary said that Greer hadn't been to court in weeks, and Mary also just came back from trip to Rome which adds more time as well.
As for the secrecy...
#1 - Greer's baby daddy is a pirate (not a reputable sort of fellow)
#2 - Greer is technically still married to her jailed husband while carrying said pirate's child
#3 - If I remember correctly, didn't the pirate do something scandalous in regards to Mary and Francis? I could be wrong, but I thought something went down with him that left some bad blood with Mary.
Greer has already fallen in and out of favor a few times based on the Protestant thing (which led to Mary's rape) and her career as a madame, and having a bastard kid to a pirate is taking another big step downward for her reputation. Greer's initial plan was to give the baby to a couple who could not have a child of their own, and then no one would ever know what happened and she could move forward without the stigma. I cannot remember if the pirate convinced her to abandon that plan or if she is still undecided. Either way, she feels some shame over the situation is not willing to tell others until she figures things out for herself.
Oh that's right! I forgot about the daddy being a pirate. Damn! Poor Greer.
She was going to give the baby to her sister and husband
That's right. So do you remember if the pirate convinced her to keep their child? I remember parts of their conversation and I do recall the fact that Greer seemed somewhat receptive to the idea once he really made his case, but I don't know if we got a real conclusion in that episode or if it was just left up in the air.
shareI'm not sure. I remember him saying he'd take care of her and the child but he wouldn't make a commitment to her.
shareThere was an episode where she planned to give the baby to a married couple who couldn't have one of their own.
Personally I think the reason they haven't emphasized on Greer much is because the character has run her course. They've sort of done that with most of the early on characters though. They've barely even managed to keep Lola in the show via the plot with Elizabeth having her family, and even that is really forced.
I can't blame Torrance for leaving either since he really has so little to do, and I think as the show begins to focus more on Mary's return to Scotland, we'll probably see the roles of Catherine and most at court reduced or eliminated entirely. I have a feeling if anything that they might give this show one more season, or maybe two, to wrap it up and then be done.
