Why is England's castle so much more sophisticated than France's?

They look pretty similar on the outside, but England's interior basically looks like a luxurious mansion, while France's is just stone all over. Is it just to make them look different on-screen or is there a reason or historical basis for the huge difference? England's style looks more like something from the 1700's.

I got a better question. Why does everyone in France and Scotland have British accents?

reply

^^Right?

I've wonder the same thing! I guess it's easier to just to do an English accent...maybe....

Why would anyone in France have a French accent? Why would they speak English at all?

English accent makes just as much sense as anything else except subtitles.

England's castles are still enjoying the major remodels and furnishings from Henry VIII. He spent England into bankruptcy several times to maintain the lavishness of his castles. France was more cautious at times. Plus, different Kings held court at different castles. The Castles of Paris were much more lavish. In the context of this show, the French court is being held at a much older, more remote castle for some reason.

They're using a castle setting in France, and a Regency mansion in England -- the Regency period was not until the 1800s and was quite lavish in design.

The other thing that cracks me up -- (not that REIGN is any bastion of historical accuracy) -- is Elizabeth sitting around drinking TEA from delicate little China tea cups. Hahaha. Cute. Also a couple of hundred years too soon.

It's just so hard for people to imagine the English without tea!

Henry VIII was very elaborate than other kings, he made the castle very posh also he wore the finest clothing. Lots of jewelry. That is the fact truth of Elizabeth ! father. Elizabeth picked up the same trait.

It's not that much of a stretch of the imagination... Tea (Chiai) made its way to Europe in exactly this era, the mid 16th century. Only 50 years later, by early 17th century, tea became a true popular drink after the VOC started importing and promoting it around Europe (starting in the Hague and Amsterdam).

So even though it wouldn't have been a common drink, it most certainly isn't a 'couple hundred years' too soon. Chinese porcelain was already being traded for centuries by then, on larger scale since the early 16th century.

I agree with Henry VIII spending the country into bankruptcy on his lavish castles but this is also the least of historical concerns. I think the only French accent I've heard was Francis' lover from season 1. I was excited to see John Borrowman in season 3 using a Scottish accent. I watched a Smithsonian special on the druids the other day, placing them in history as BC and up to a few hundred AD....so why is Mary running into them? Ultimately, it's the CW. I was hoping they would go way outside of history and let Francis live, not entirely sure I'm willing to watch the show without him.
