Laurie appreciation thread.
I have to admit, upon first watch I had no specific opinion on her character in fact i probably would have said the show would be better off without.
However, I have gone back to watch season 1 and I have reached the episode Gladys. Laurie's pain at losing her family has been apparent throughout, her face says it all (even if she could speak). All the of the subtlety of her pain was present, sitting in Kevin's back garden, trying to get the lighter back and the panic attack. And most of all shown from Matt's service for Gladys where Laurie was clearly grieving and had to get him out of there for fear of what Patty might do to her should she catch her moping.
It's crazily clear now that she regretted going to the GR and that Patty had convinced her to stay through fear. That diner scene showed Patty for the nigh on psychotic she was and she pretty much threatened Laurie in the same way as she did Gladys.
I really understand her character more and can firmly place her in the complicatedly grieving pile (like all of them lol). What does everyone else think? Has anyone gone back and seen things and watched it differently.
