others shows recommendations with the same kind of vibe / mood ?

i'm looking for tv shows which could evoke a similar kind of emotional , mysterious or eerie feelings i had with The Leftovers, tv shows where everything is not necessarily explained, leaving a free hand to the viewer interpretation or imagination...

I'm thinking for now about this shows :

- les revenants ( the original french version )
- john from Cincinnati
- lost
- six feet under
- sense 8
- twin peak ( more for the mistery part )
- true detective season one ( kind of )
- recitfy
- Broadchurch
- top of the lake
- the killing
- carnivale
- American Gothic

any other recommendations ?

I'd definitely suggest these:

The Returned (French version)
Lost
Hannibal
The Killing (Both Danish and US versions are great!)
American Crime (Not to be confused with American Crime Story)
Mr. Robot

thx,

The Returned (French version) - yes definitely , "les revenants" is the closest i've seen yet
Lost - of course ;)

Hannibal - especially the last season, the dark side of the mood...
Mr. Robot -waiting for the second season, story/concept is cool but I have unfortunately not managed get attached to character(s)

The Killing (Both Danish and US versions are great!)
American Crime (Not to be confused with American Crime Story)

havent seen them yet, will give them a try, the killing seems neat, i like what i've read about the pace of this show

No problem. Based on your taste, I'd definitely suggest both of those. I think you'd really like them. I know what you mean about the characters in Mr. Robot, but I find the dialogue and edginess of the show very fascinating. It's a bit trippy!

I saw you wrote Broadchurch, which I also found really good, I look forward to the final series.

I really tried to get into True Detective, but for some reason I just wasn't getting into it. I suppose I should try again.

I didn't really care for Top of the Lake. I found the characters to be very unlikable.

Twin Peaks was interesting. Very strange. I wanted to watch it because it seems like everyone brings it up on message boards.

Rectify is on my list to watch. Perhaps Six Feet Under I'll check out some time as well.

Some other shows you may be interested in are The Path, Olive Kitteridge, River, Unforgotten, Run, The Slap (Australian version), The Affair, The Americans, The Bridge (both Danish/Swedish version and American version), The Tunnel (which is UK/French version of The Bridge), The Fall, Fortitude, The Missing, and The Walking Dead.

Seems like we have similar taste. You should check out the list of shows I've seen.

Depends what country you live in. If it's in the U.S., I'm afraid the best way would to try to find it on a torrent site.

No one ever recommends this, so I will now:

Flash Forward

I love it, a pity it got cancelled, like so many nice Shows.

In the same Mood I also liked "Jericho"

reply

Neither Flash Forward nor Jericho manage to get close to this show when it comes to writing. Flash Forward mainly because it never really had the chance to entirely unfold its story and stayed a stump. Jericho had more than a chance but was incredibly dull and not thought through at all. In fact it was almost an insult for the audience's intellect.
Neither of those shows has an equal emotional impact.

Black Mirror

Top Of The Lake is probably a good choice in its cryptic writing.

Enlightened has the same kind of soul, but in a much warmer way.

Better Call Saul has one riddle along about well thought through motives of characters and the same kind of sober and painful moments.

No one has said the 4400! I think that is very similar to The Leftovers. Not as good, IMO, but very similar nevertheless
