This series is incredibly random

I finally got around to watching S2 this week, been in my Sky planner for the last eight months.

Anyway, finished the finale this afternoon and it was pretty 'meh'. The series in general has been so random though. Patti as a ghost, Kevin dieing twice and coming back (dead for 8 hours?!!!!), Mary drifing in and out of her comatose state, the woman in the finale grabbing the baby and just leaving it, more to the point who's baby was it exactly?, Why was the baby left on Nora's doorstep?, Evangeline and her friends joining the Guilty Remnant for literally no reason, Laurie's reluctance to rebuild a relationship with Jill, the opening scene (wtf was that about?) etc. Half this stuff either wasn't explained or made no sense whatsoever.

Speaking of Jill, what exactly was the point of her in S2? Her father's quite clearly having a mental breakdown and she's literally got no concern. She was just in this season purely because she's Kevin's daughter. Her scenes were mostly with Michael, and that whole relationship was dropped like a stone after the church scene. Tom's story arc was also pointless. Why join the GR? What exactly was he and Laurie trying to achieve? They have family, join them, rebuild bridges, why continue to indulge in such lunicy? Meg suddenly came into the picture with about 2 or 3 episodes to go and she's turned into a complete fruit loop, probably the most annoying character out the lot (although that might just be Liv Tyler's acting).

Oh, and reading some of the critics and views of others i've absolutely no idea why people are happy to accept the sudden disappearance of 140m people doesn't need an explanation.... You start a story around it then you finish it. I was drawn to the original series because of the rapture element, sounds like the creators don't intend to give any explanations either. If the whole premise of The Leftovers is around the aftermath of the event then fine, but why make it ridiculously stupid with the GR and supernatural elements?

This is getting a free pass from critisim because of the brilliant acting (for the most part), and the score which is great. In reality the writing is sub-par, doesn't make sense, and has just as many frustrating plot holes as Lost. Probably why S3 is going to be its last.

It's not your cup of tea, which is fine. Some people intellectually click with the raw emotion of the show, some don't.

I am you and what I see is me.

Could only do your first paragraph. There are so many inaccuracies in it that I saw no reason to read further.

Also, how could you have watched the show AND NOT KNOW "who's baby was it exactly" AND WHERE she was left!?

"This moment was always looking for me."

"just as many frustrating plot holes as Lost"

Six years on, and you still believe the myth? Wow!

This show is great, you not understanding things, doesnt make them "plotholes" or "no sense".

reply

I know it's not perfect (but honestly, how can you not know where the baby came from ??? LOL ) but I find it so compelling I'm willing to overlook minor flaws. I figure if a show has me thinking about it days after, that's a good sign

Someone who disagrees with you is NOT a hater 😉

It's pretty clear from the first paragraph that you just don't pay attention to what you're watching, and your last paragraph just proves it even further. And how the hell can there be plot holes if you don't seem to understand anything in the first place?

Hail to the king, baby.

After reading your post, I'm left wondering what planet you live on if you could not deduce the extremely simple answers to literally every single question you asked. Your assessment of why this show is receiving critical praise, as well as your assessment of the show in general, is grotesquely inaccurate, and if you'd been paying attention at all you'd have the answers to all of your questions.

Seriously though, are you kidding me? How the holy-fuck do you not know who's baby that is or why it was left on the doorstep? Are you sure you were watching The Leftovers? Were you even conscious? Maybe there were just some bright lights flashing in front of your face and you somehow found your way to this discussion board. Do you need help finding your way home?

reply

The baby thing was obvious, but nobody wants / tries to answer any of the OP's other questions. They just want to call her an idiot for (somehow) missing the baby part.

I thought the whole Wayne thing was pointless. Maybe the baby has some sort of story line in S3.

Also, for randomness / unanswered questions - Dean and the guy on the bridge/hotel bar (Box from Night Of). Why did Deam just leave a $30k truck to Kevin? Where did the bridge guy come from? Just a completely random dude offering advice to Kevin...and he takes it?

reply

The guy on the bridge is David Burton, who is referenced earlier in the show on a TV broadcast.

An Australian guy who keeps returning from the dead.
