Noah is not that famous
For his Vanity Fair story to explode across the news like that. Just a week earlier, the bride shop had no clue who he was so why the whole country cares about his story?

shareI think we are meant to think that Noah is famous. A good comparison would be James Frey. He was famous for "A million Little pieces" and then sank into disfavor when it was revealed that the book was not a "true" memoir, but mostly fabricated. I would not have recognized James Frey if he walked into a store, but i was familiar with his work.
shareI get that but then this show wants us to believe Sasha can steal writing credits for Descent and get away with it. It can’t be both ways. Either Noah is famous for writing Descent, or he is an obscure writer whose work got hijacked by the Hollywood machine.
If Noah agrees-- and it appears that he is financially strapped enough-- his name can be taken off the screenplay. They are already changing the name of the film. And will definitely change the ending, since it appears that Sasha hated that part.
It appears that Noah is more infamous than famous. Oddly, people find it easier to forgive someone for vehicular manslaughter, than sexual harassment.
His name can’t be taken off the book. Presumably Noah is already famous for the book which is why it was picked up for a movie. Sasha can’t make himself the author of the book, only get money for the script. I see copyright infringement if they use the book but don’t give Noah the writing credit, even if Sasha changed the ending. It seems widely known that Noah was offered this movie deal so how can they just erase that? They changed the ending to John Grisham’s The Firm in the movie version but Grisham is still known as the author.
The story seems convoluted this season. Treem wants to roll in hot topics like #metoo and climate change into this and they fit like square plugs in round holes. This show was at its strongest when it focused inwardly on the characters and the different ways they perceived their experiences with each other.
I agree the story is convoluted and they are reaching for a plot.
There will not be copyright infringement if there are contracts to which Noah agrees. The film may continue to say "based on a book by Noah Soloway," but he will not get credit for writing the actual screenplay. That is why there are two separate awards in the Oscars for screenwriting, one for original screenplay and one for screenplay based on another source.
There was a case back about 20 years ago. John Irving wrote "A Prayer for Owen Meany." Then he didn't like screenplay they made out of his book. So he asked them to change the name of the movie and the film has this bizarre screen credit that says "suggested by a book by John Irving." They may do that.
I think Noah is going to get killed off before the movie ever gets released. Then the story is left with Helen who might team up with Christianna to get back at Sasha. Not sure where the Joni story is going or why it was told at all.
Do you get the feeling we are the only ones sticking this show out through the end of this season? This board is quiet and there is very little social media buzz on this show anymore. Oh well, thanks for your insightful responses to my comments.
Yes, it has been very odd how quiet this board is considering how active it used to be. It just speaks to how many people have stopped watching the show. My friends who used to watch the show haven’t looked at it at all this year.
