Alison is the most boring, lifeless, listless character I've watched

Plus her giant upper lip looks like the Simpsons.
Seriously though, she has no depth.

Thank you! I thought it was just me...She is plain awful. Boring, bland, tedious, awful.

She IS supposed to be lifeless, listless.
It's depression over the death of her son.
She's playing the role as it was meant to be played.

reply

not really, she's just a sucky actress. As was mentioned in another thread on here (one of the ones I started - something like, "I know now the reason I didn't like this at first"), as someone posted on there - she plays the same character in almost everything she plays in. She is a very low energy actress, very one-dimensional and low range. A better actress could have played the character of Alison as not as dry, boring, annoying, and cringe-worthy - with still getting the point across that she is supposed to be depressed.

They were talking about the character not just the actress.

And you could add a possible murderer to that list as well. I'm not convinced she didn't just imagine Scotty trying to rape her to justify in her warped mind pushing him in front of an incoming car and getting rid of the major nuisance that he was becoming in her life.

I know that certain 'feminists' hate to acknowledge that women fabricate rape accusations for their self serving reasons actually exist for fear of undermining women who do suffer from genuine sexual assault.

But the truth of the matter is that these false rape accusations happen all the time and the delude Alison fits the profile. (i.e. self absorbed and constantly blaming others for her failures in life).

I see I'm not the only one who found Alison's character boring lol. I didn't think it was the actress' fault though, I thought her character was supposed to be that way and come off as weird and awkward.. I guess to kinda makes you constantly wonder what Noah even sees in her.

Agree. I don't see the mass appeal or the "the reason the word 'sex' exists". Every man she comes near gets a boner? Really?
Naw, not this hum-drum, Debby-Downer narcissist.

reply

I totally agree. Especially when you see the chemistry that Noah and Helen have. I think it's electric. Allison and Noah (and Cole) are just zzzzzz.

reply

You are an idiot. The acting / performances are fine. Performance is created in the editing room.

The leads are just to ugly to elicit much of an emotional response, which leads to boredom - even though by all accounts "The Affair" is quite novel and well produced.

It doesn't help either that everyone on this show is 10 times hotter and the writers themselves explain why Noah and Alison look so ugly - in relation to their spouses.

Of course I am not alone with this sentiment but rather the norm.

Anyone who can't express disagreement without name calling insults can't be taken seriously and should be ignored. Welcome to my ignore list, georgegates. I encourage everyone to join me in putting anyone on ignore who can't discuss without name calling.

Well, the actress won Golden globe for this role, so... lol.

Did she win for season 1 oder season 2? I believe season 1.

I guess for some viewers it was too much when she stayed the melancholic lost girl in season 2.

I remember at the end of season 1 she tells Noah they will get through the accusation against him. She is quite strong and powerful in that scene and I sensed she had evolved because they were together, had the baby and moved away from Montauk.

Then season 2 starts (I know there is part of the story that's before what we saw at the end of season 1) and she is the same lost girl from season 1. I don't remember a scene in season 2 where she puts up the strength and determination we saw in that final scene of season 1.

But who knows, it might very well come up in season 3.

I btw love her character. I adore watching her. Not only because she is beautiful but because I feel for her and connect in a way. I guess some viewers just wich to see outbursts and stuff every second episode in order to see "range". But up to this point her character does not have this kind of range.
