What Noah and Helen should have done after hitting Scotty

Because of Helen's prior driving arrests Noah becomes driver but they wait an hour or two for alcohol to clear from his system. Then they call the police and tell them the truth - they're driving back and all of a sudden Scott runs out in the dark of night in front of their car (actually pushed by Alison after he tried to rape her, but the cops don't need to know that). If Noah is even brought up on charges he gets off easily, imo.

The four are too intimately involved for anyone, especially the police, to believe the near truth, as Helen had been drinking. The police would surly draw up some other conclusion. It's like Deliverance, the truth doesn't stand a chance given the circumstances.

yeah I really struggled with this, but you have to suspend disbelief in order to stay with the story. that's what I think, anyway. they were too drunk to think clearly at the time, but should have come forward after they sobered up. hit and run is despicable. I don't care what the side stories are. very cowardly

While nothing excuses the drunk driving, Alison pushed Scotty right as Helen was driving by. Not even Lewis Hamilton could have avoided that collision. It was truly an accident and there was zero malice on anyone's part except for Scotty's. I would have been much better with the lies/secrecy if Scotty had been in the middle of the road and Helen did not act in the time because she was drunk. That's more plausible for the ruse.

reply

no malice but leaving the scene of an accident is a crime and despicable.

reply

Oh, I agree. But they made it worse on themselves by doing that and they deserve everything that is coming their way.

Helen wasn't looking at the road because Noah's hand was on her leg. Anytime you're in an accident and you're driving drunk - you're in big trouble. If she had called the police, she probably would've been arrested for involuntary manslaughter. If she hadn't been drinking and the same thing happened, it would've been deemed an accident.
