could it be possible.....

.... that Noah actually wounded himself? I know this seems like a stretch, and it could very well be anyone (the guard, the angry brother-in-law, someone close to the Lockhart family) but hear me out. Perhaps someone else has brought this up but I didn't see it.

The scene at the end of last night's episode shows Noah standing over a sink, and the last piece of silverware that he is washing is a sharp looking knife. We sort of experience the "break-in" from his perspective, supposedly hearing a door open and footsteps walking down the hall. However, we don't see a person, just a sort of shadowy figure. Noah kept his eyes forward the entire time after turning back when he thought he heard the door, and sweat is beading off him like crazy, like he is about to have a full-on panic attack. Could it be possible that Noah experienced some form of psychosis and did it to himself without even consciously realizing it? He has obviously experienced a bunch of s**t and his PTSD about it all (including the guard) may have caused a mental breakdown. I'm not even convinced that the guard is actually following him..... he could be imagining it. Just a thought.

.

I was wondering that too, because I thought it was weird when didn't turn around. He heard the door, and he seem like he knew someone was there, yet he did nothing??

Exactly, the whole situation just seemed too strange to be real. Him not doing anything but stand there with his back to the supposed intruder was almost like an invitation to be hurt - which is another reason why I think he did it to himself.

reply

I think that's what happened. I think the guard is not following him either and he is dealing with the severe trauma he endured from that guard in prison. I am hypothesizing that the guard actually raped him. It would make sense with how much they were talking about rape and unsafety at the dinner party in 3.01.

reply

Yes, I think the guard that is maybe still haunting his thoughts raped him in prison, as well. I agree that with the whole discussion at the party (as well as the flashback in prison where he sort of gave Noah the "once over") is leading up to us learning about it.

reply

I am also wondering if in some messed up way, Noah sort of enjoyed it AND hated it at the same time... I know that's sick to say because rape is no joke.... but what he was saying about Allison's book character kind of enjoying the "dominant" sex (and the French professor agreeing that there is no black or white when it comes to desire) could allude to that. Guess we shall see.

reply

When it comes to correctional facility employees and inmates there is black and white when it comes to the law. Even if Noah begged a C.O. for it he couldn't consent and it was rape.

reply

I definitely agree with that!! But if he was in fact raped, I just think it was strange the way he described how one person who is forced into submission can still enjoy it (and that it's sometimes difficult to legislate in a court of law, etc). Perhaps he was totally wiping that prison moment from his mind when he said it, though, and was solely referring to Allison.

reply

that is exactly what I think may have happened. I think he stabbed himself.

reply

Is that even possible? Can you stab yourself in the neck?

reply

sure you can. You take the knife and plunge it into your neck. but you'd have to be pretty psychotic to do it.

reply

that Noah actually wounded himself? I know this seems like a stretch,

I thought the same thing with how the first episode ended, that Noah wounded himself or reliving something that happened in prison, the whole shoulder pain and pills is all related. The entire paranoia of someone following him is also something he is imagining too; its not real. You can definitively see this is not the same Noah; it was very interesting how this show is really taking a different turn this season, a guy who really went to a descent in almost all aspects of his life.

reply

I never thought that he stabbed himself. But he could very well have done it.

As far as the guard, It's always seemed like it's been a figment of his imagination

reply

Maybe? PTSD can make you do some crazy stuff. Knew a guy who had PTSD and he would have blackouts and lose time.

reply

You might have a point there.

After he was stabbed, he fell and the camera made it appear he was alone.

If there was someone there, he couldn't be that fast to escape after the stabbing.

reply

Not a stretch at all. The wound is located in a place where he could have done it to himself and after rewatching think its exactly what happened.

reply

Noah is either being followed or it's his imagination. Why wasn't door locked? Did French woman use a key? If so, I didn't see it.
