PSA (Public Service Announcement)

Here's a link to a TV discussion forum (thanks, mindthinkr):

http://forums.previously.tv/

It'll take my eyes a while to adjust to the formatting on that site, but it looks like it could be a viable alternative, at least for TV shows.

Thank You!

I would try it. Would you guys keep the same username?

reply

That's a great idea. It would provide some continuity.

I will check it out.

reply

I'll register with my username here, I hope I'll see you all there :-)

reply

I'll keep my same name there as here, and hope most others do too so we can recognize one another. I'm not all that fond out their formatting either, but it's not all that bad, and I'd rather see the same or similar people posting there, regardless of names, than not be able to recognize anyone.

I'll be Catbookss there, provided no one else has claimed the name.

reply

I just signed up. Same name but the only show there that I watch is The Affair. There's no Homeland.Maybe they will add more.

Unfortunately I don't see any movie boards and I always run here after watching a movie. Sheesh, I wish they would keep these old boards even just in a "read only" mode, Like anything, I guess we'll adapt.

I know. It's even worse with AT TV (is that the name? or something close to it), where there's nothing at all listed under some of my favorites. Same with the Rotten Tomatoes forums. I guess most everyone came here, buy according to IMDb, soon this won't be an option anymore.

Like you, while my general preference now is TV shows, I also like films, and it's very annoying to not be able to go somewhere anymore where there are both

Having the old boards in read-only format would be much better than nothing, and would mean a lot of valuable posts wouldn't be disintegrated into the vapors of time, most of us want to participate in the various conversations. That's the point! That's what makes it an interactive and interesting experience.

Grr, my animosity towards Amazon and IMDb is growing.

I don't blame IMDb; I blame the trolls who took over the sites especially on films. It used to be you could discuss different topics, but I noticed awhile back that the personal attacks and immature comments seemed to be increasing and discussions got hijacked into pointless diatribes. Different from how it once was. :(

I came over from the "Making A Murderer" board to read what folks are saying and feeling about the Message Boards going to cyber space. I only post on that board except for a few replies to one other board thread. I agree with your comment. Someone on one of the petitions to keep the boards up and running, suggested we more or less "police" ourselves and report the unsavory, those with profanity, those which malign other posters, etc. posts to the IMDB board. Three strikes! You are terminated!

Since I don't read the other boards too often, I'm not aware whether or not having civil dialogue is the norm. As a whole our MAM board has been civil except for those "trolls" you speak of who all of a sudden pop up. They come on board to stir the pot and sling excrement via their malicious diatribe and insults. After awhile they have taken control, because those of us who wish to have a civil, healthy debate back off. We don't post. We don't ask questions. We just give up and add another venomous name to our Ignore List.

I would happily pay $5-$10 a year membership to keep the boards going. I'm a firm believer that when people are dues paying members, they treat it differently, and it keeps a lot of the riff-raff out (meaning, the scum who post the sites for illegal downloads that join up faster than you can report them, the sock puppets, and all the rest of the people who post here to troll).

They really don't owe us anything. At least if one has to make the financial commitment to be a member, then I think one takes it more seriously. It becomes a choice and a privilege to be part of the community. I would PayPal them in a nano-second if they went that route. Or if you're an Amazon Prime member let that be a perk of the membership, and if not, charge $5.00 a year.

I understand this is a company out to make money, and I don't begrudge them. As it is I practically support Amazon. There isn't a day in my life that I don't use it whether purchasing something, using my devices, my videos, my music, etc So I would certainly donate towards the boards..which is a a pleasure which I am going to dearly miss.

Thanks. Here's a really interesting thread talking about opening up that board to accept disenfranchised IMDb posters. There are two states of mind:

1. Don't take on the headache of the hateful immature IMDb posters who will trash TMDB site the same way they trashed the IMDb site.

2. There are thoughtful, intelligent posters on IMDb who go against the big PR machinery and tell it like it is and that's important.

Here's a link to that thread:

Another one:

I'm posting these links as I locate them, on a few boards to give folks who enjoy discussing movies and tv programs alternative sites.
I hope you don't mind me posting here as I wasn't a part of The Affair discussion group. I'm familiar with one of your posters from MAM and am aware she and others are dismayed with the IMDB decision.
