I am very pissed off about the ending of message boards.

I have been using message boards for 10 years ever since I discovered IMDB, literally EVERY time after I watch a movie a have a question of some sort, or interested in discussing something about the movie, many times I have actually discovered more recomandations from posting specific questions. And many times I've just had so much fun reading funny stuff on some of the threads.

I think it's so unfair they have decided to take this off bacause of some people who use this for something else. I think the purpouse of the message boards still remains a necesity for movie lovers. Taking it down is very petty and crappy idea.

*** you IMDB.

I agree and I hope their site suffers greatly from doing so.

Their site will do just fine and anyone that thinks otherwise is just crazy.

That was in another day and time, Now, those emails are just read by a different tier of customer service reps.

I do t like this idea either. Movies and tv are the only thing I write about these days but maybe someone somewhere can create something else similar to the message boards!

reply

I didn't know. Just reading the message. Wow, it will really drive down their web traffic significantly.vBut honestly I don't blame them though. Sometimes when I say on the boards that I don't like a movie someone else like, I get some insulting/rude comments. I guess they were getting a lot of complaints to monitor. A lot of websites are disabling their comment section because it's takes a lot of resources to keep trolls away. CNN, NY Post and NY Daily News are sites that got rid of their comment sections recently cause of a lot of trolls. So I don't fault them..

reply

I know there's tons of trolls on TWD & GoT boards as well as The Soapbox but I didn't think it was really all that universal.

Me too.12 years. I'm starting to get separation anxiety. This site has been so much a part of my life. If the powers that be think the loss of the message boards aren't going to impact their site, they are mistaken, or they really just don't care. Social media has been the death knell for message boards. I'm a dinosaur. I still post from my desktop or laptop. I can't type out posts (especially long ones) from my phone, nor would I want to.

They've been gearing this site towards smart phones and Ipads for years. I remember when they re-designed the site to make it more user friendly for people who are surgically attached to their devices.

I would have gladly paid to use the site and keep the message boards going. We don't "deserve" anything and they don't owe us anything. I wish they would keep the boards for classic movies in just "read-only" mode. That's what I'm going to miss. Not a spammy board for Game of Thrones. I don't tweet, and I have a FB account but I never post there, and have no desire to. But under the best of circumstances, this site was truly a community and I will miss it so much when it's gone.

I am upset too. I've been coming here for 13 years. I come here after watching any movie or TV show.

Not really understanding why people are being sad or (like you) angry.

If the last remaining founder wants to self-destruct his site, kill traffic and engagement, and lie about the reasons, why should we care?

We've seen this play out before. Blackberry told customers what they should or shouldn't want, also in the same conceited and dishonest way., So did Digg, and lots of other failed ventures. It's just interesting to watch it unravel and to know that someone is actually making these conscious but self-destructive decisions.

Yeah, well, you and everyone else. Join the (big) club, Rabbits.

Probably you won't see my response, but the real reason the boards were nuked is because Amazon couldn't figure out a way to monetize them, and the original owner was never behind them anyway, and in fact spoke disparagingly of them and those of us who used them ;)
