'Smells of pumps'?

"Smells of pumps in here"
"Shoe pumps or bottom pumps?"

I didn't get that. I get that "pumps" is slang for shoes, but what is a bottom pump? And why would shoes stink up a room?

A bottom pump is a fart.

I was confused by that - farts or sports pumps (the old black canvas and rubber ones did get smelly).
