Britishisms

The use of the terms "ring" meaning "make a phone call" and "post" meaning "send through the mail" really stuck out like a sore thumb. Initially I thought it was a Canadian production and wasn't sure if those terms were used in Canada but then I researched and found out that everyone involved with the production is American.

My only conclusion is that either the characters or the writers are pretentious anglophiles and, either way, it's annoying. Or I guess maybe it could have been produced to target a British audience but it wouldn't make any sense.

Maybe the writers(or characters)have watched too much Doctor Who.

Lol, that's what ruined it for you? So sad...

Funny you mention this. Im an American who watches a lot of British tv and just got done watching this. From the very beginning I got the impression this was set in the UK. Of all this things to potentially not pick up on in the story, the fact that all the main characters were speaking with American accents totally went over my head. Like you, I was really surprised to find out that nobody on the production team was remotely British.

Yes! I noticed those as well. Also, one of the guys says "cripes" at one point early in the movie. I can confirm that in Canada (at least, in Ontario), people don't use any of those terms unless they're actually from Britain (or possibly, Australia). I've been to other Canadian provinces and never heard them there, either.

The woman early in the movie who left a message on the scientist dude's answering machine had a British accent. And one of the songs played in the movie also seemed to be British. I think the writers were untalented wannabe-Brits. If Jasper's swear words were counted like a population density statistic, he'd be the Kowloon walled city.

A shame it ruined the experience for you, me old china.
Although it made a change to hear some bleedin' "Britishisms" in an American production for once.
Lovely jubbly.
