Fake blood

I just started binge-watching the first two seasons and I noticed an excessive amount of blood in every scene. It's spackled all over faces, gushing out of wounds and/or into tubes, and splattered all over clothes, floors and random surfaces. So every time I watch this show I find myself wondering was this all planned beforehand and therefore this show has one of the highest fake blood budgets in the business, or were they given copious amounts of fake blood before production and decided to use as much of it as possible? What do you guys think? I feel like I cannot rest until I know for certain why there is so much fake blood use.

Haha I never thought about how high their fake blood budget must be  I think it's planned beforehand. They've been trying to give the show a darker image with each season so far so I think they use it to make the characters look gritty and the setting feel chaotic.

Kim Shumway, one of the writers on the show, tweeted about it a while ago so it looks like there won't be any shortage of blood next season either https://twitter.com/kimshum/status/774766506055901184

I understand they may want a gritty look and chaotic feel, but I think they could have toned it down some. On top of everything else, the excessive blood use almost takes it to a cartoonish level, since the characters are rarely weak from blood loss, rarely get infections from the wounds, and sometimes heal rapidly without scars.

In any case, thanks for the link! Seems like Kim Shumway thinks all the blood is necessary , but I'm glad to see that others are questioning the show's fake blood use too 
