I love the show, and I kinda want to read the books too. Are they as awesome as the show or?
shareI haven't read them so I'm probably not the best person to answer! I do know that they're completely different to the show and I've heard that they're not very good.
shareThey're definitely not as awesome as the show. It's basically just a bunch of love stories woven into one. I don't regret reading them - I love the show so it was interesting to read a story in the 100 world from another perspective - but don't go into it thinking they're anything alike.

shareI've read the first book. The quality of the novel is atrocious. It's like a fanfic written by a teenager. The dialogue is mostly unintentionally hilarious or downright awkward and clumsy. The author's vocabulary is extremely limited, and it doesn't feel at all like a real world.
The only thing that might interest you is that it explores life on the Ark in more detail, and particularly the rampant inequality between the elite ruling class and the workers.
But even that is a theme that has been explored ininfar far better terms in many genre novels and tv shows (in books, the Wool trilogy is a good example and The Expanse tv series - don't read the novels it's based on, though, they're almost as badly written as the book which this show is based on).
I've read all the books. There is no comparison between the show and the novel. If not for some of the names and the basic generic premise, you wouldn't ever know that the two were supposed to be connected.
I feel the TV show has a bit more depth and subtext while the books are more geared for young adults, but the books are good are good for what they are.
Bottom line: if you like young adult literature, you'll probably like the books. However, if you're expecting a page-by-page recap of the show, you're going to be disappointed.
