Watched half the pilot

felt like I'm too old for this show. 46. What's the consensus give it a shot or is it really geared for a younger audience?

reply

It gets better. The pilot is weak but the show improves once they start killing characters off in surprising ways.

I'm almost 59, and although it got off to a slowish start in season one and some of the details of space and ground life are amateurish sci-fi, I don't really notice the focus on younger characters too much. I'm into season two right now on NetFlix and overall I'm enjoying it. Can't speak for the later episodes of season two and three yet, but from what I've seen so far, think The Lord of the Flies on post-apocalyptic Earth.

Over at SpoilerTV they needed about 8 months to finally convince me to start watching, because, you know, typical The CW teenie-drama-love-triangle-bs, as I thought back then (binge-watched 1 1/2 seasons to watch the S2 midseason finale "live" in Dezember 2014). I'm so glad I did. I would have missed one of the best SciFi shows to date (IMO) besides Lost, Battlestar Galactica, and Firefly.

Oh, I'm almost 44 now.

I'm older than anyone else here! Being in the UK, I'd never even heard of the CW network when I started watching the show. It appeared on one of our commercial channels here and as hubby and I like sci-fi we started watching it, obviously having no idea that it was geared toward a much younger demographic than us. I loved it almost from the beginning and apart from all the Clexa controversy, continue to love it. In fact I love it too much because it's costing me a fortune going to conventions both in the UK and in Europe to meet members of the cast, something I've never done before!

reply

Aw, don't forget the 59 yo guy two posts above! ;) Funny thing is, we aren't that much above average. At least on one of the German sites that show some demographics The 100 skews 66% male and averages 40 and 50 years (42,6 to be exact, out of 4939 people who faved The 100 on that particular site). On SpoilerTV the main demo is between 25 and 30 I'd say, and also male skewing. It's a shame this doesn't show in the ratings, either in the US, or in Germany.

You're lucky to have the opportunity to go to conventions. I'd love to, sort of, but there's no time and no money. And I would be SO tongue-tied. It's one thing to "talk" online in a foreign language, but to talk in person it's something else entirely. LOL

So you're German? I'd never have guessed you weren't a native English speaker! There were quite a few German people at the Survival convention in London in March plus others from all over Europe and one woman came from Canada. A lot of the cast will be at the Polaris convention in Frankfurt in June. You should go - it will be great fun.

reply

Yes, I am. And thank you. :) But it's much easier to write than to talk. While writing you can always look things up. At a convention you have a few minutes at best to talk to one of the attendees, and I think it's not easy in your own language, let alone a foreign one.

I just passed a test to get English lessons at my workplace, and the result was quite good, C1, which is the second best category in Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, CEFR), close to native speaker. But it was only a multiple choice test. According to C1 I can speak spontaniously and fluently without noticeably searching for words. Um, nope! :)

You will have so much fun at Polaris Con! For me it's not possible. I can't afford it. We have too many other financial obligations and family things that have priority.

I´m 40. I enjoy it. Show picks up after the first couple of episodes.

I'm in my early 40's and when this first came on, I watched the first 10 minutes and gave up on it. I thought it would be another shallow sci-fi like Revolution, with teens looking all dolled up like they came out of a beauty salon. Also, how they talked and the things they said were not that believable.

Recently, I ran out of things to watch so I gave this another try and what can I say, I got hooked! Give it a few episodes and it definitely evolves to something more interesting, especially after Season 1.
