you don't have to be old to remember the Elvis version. They play GI Blues every January 8 and August 16 in those Elvis marathons.

But why do you ask?

reply

Didn't you recognize the song that the guy was singing when he was strapped to the chair, he was the one who later had his arms and legs cut off.

I recognized the song immediately and thought it was strange for him to be singing that particular song

I don't speak a word of German and I had not heard the song in decades but I was able to recognize the song in seconds. I also haven't heard his name mentioned in decades but instantly remember his name. Isn't is funny how the brain works.

I recognized it. I just didn't care. I was focusing on what was happening in the scene.

I was also focusing on what was happening, and while I was focusing on what was going on I was trying to understand why the heck someone that was about to be killed would start singing a song. That was the reason why I asked the question. I had hoped someone that watch the scene would want to sing, the fact he was singing along with his choice of what he sang seemed bizarre.

I did not get any/many replies. So I am going to ask whom ever is reading the question worded in a different manner along with another question.

If you were about to be killed would you start singing a song. Secondly I am baffled by the choice of songs. Does the song and words to a song "Wooden heart" have any meaning or significance to the story? Why would a vampire that's about to be exicuted singing a song about a wooden heart? I am trying to figure out the significance of the song and had hoped someone that was watching the scene

I didn't mean your weren't watching the scene. I also meant no disrespect. I was just talking about why the song didn't mean much. Probably because that was a common affectation that's been used by villains in genre stories. Singing a cute song while doing something evil or while facing their demise.

Just guessing but they probably wanted to show how little his demise affected him until he found out that he was going to b tortured and dismembered. The song may have been his favorite.

Thanks for clarifying that there was no intent to attack me personally. However I am still find his behavior somewhat bizarre and still do find that his behavior to be baffling. Since you mentioned it happening in other movies I did make an effort to recall other characters exhibiting the same behavior and although I can not narrow it down to a specific scene in a movie I will admit that it could be something I saw without recalling the details. I still think the idea of someone singing is somewhat bizarre to me but it may be a difference in cultures and different time periods.

One thing that did come to mind was a scene from the original version of "Red dawn" . I remember viewing a scene where there were a group of people that were standing up and about to be executed. The group all sang a song that may have been "God bless America" or a similar patriotic song. In the situation the singing did not seem odd.

With this show "The strain" it may not have seemed so odd if he had sung a WWII pro Nazi war song but I guess his choice of songs is what made it seem odd.
