Have you seen most of the movies that come out today? This movie runs circles around them. People just want everything spelled out for them and to have constant action. I thought this was a beautiful story and is right up with his other work.
What a cop out of an argument.. playing the people just need big explosions card. Mate, I barely own a handful of films built around special effects and explosions at a million miles an hour. Most of my favourite films have great stories and are character pieces etc. No two ways about it, this film is uninspired. The performances are even dull... nothing to do with spelling things out. It's just not any good.
shareIt's not a cop out argument. You lay some vague statement that it was "snooze fest" and I'm not supposed to assume you expected more action? Make your case about why it was so boring and uninspired and then tell me what you'd do differently. But trashing a movie that has better writing and character development than most films these days is stupid.
It wasn't his best film but I think it was still very strong and not far off from his other movies. The characters were interesting, the acting was superb, and the plot wasn't by the numbers like many films these days. Nichols doesn't talk down to the audience. He trusts that the audience makes the connections that he leaves out and comes to their own conclusions about what happens.
I think it was an ambitious film and yeah it probably wasn't satisfying to some people but that's OK because at least he tried to do something unique which is what counts.

I rather enjoyed this film. I felt the timing was spot on and thought the music, setting, acting (which I thought was excellent), and scenery played extremely well in telling this story.
