Gas station scene

Really?........really?

reply

care to elaborate or do you prefer being impossibly vague/cryptic?

reply

No it wasn't the satellite part. Now don't get me wrong I was thoroughly enjoying the movie before this scene and I enjoyed it all afterwards.

I just didn't believe that with two grown available they would find a reason to leave the boy all alone in the van..at at gas station of all places.

this is nit picking i know, i thought the movie was very good otherwise.

reply

renton, no, i agree w/ you (i just didn't know what part of the scene you were referring to. LOL). i think the fact Shannon's character just "HAD" to make that phone at that moment, thereby leaving the boy alone in the van, (even though dad's face was plastered over every tv due to the AMBER alert!) was ridiculous.

Yup. Agreed.

Also, I kept waiting for Roy (Shannon) to do something to change his appearance. I realize they were on the run, but they were hiding out during daylight hours, so he had plenty of time to work on it.

Eh, to be play devil's advocate: The kid seemed to be very agreeable and willing to do exactly as his dad told him up to that point.

I think this is almost a 'coming of age' situation. The boy had been told not to move, but his true nature overrode what he knew was right and he headed out. The kid was trying to understand what he was.

I think this was probably the first time the kid had done anything like this, which is why it took Lucas and Roy by surprise.

"Luke Skywalker has vanished."

Obviously the boy sent out some kind of magnetic force & took town the satellite

Why didn't he send out a smaller magnetic force to point the weapons the kidnappers had at their own heads or stop the getaway car?
Or flip military vehicles or float his dads car to safety or make then fly in the car?
Pretty crappy power he had.
Human light bulb.

reply

Because he literally almost died after doing that to the satellite. It's clearly a power he has, but it takes a lot out of him.

If he did all that before getting to the field at the end, he may have been too weak to open the portal.

reply

I found it much more ridiculous, that with large objects crashing to the ground and things exploding, they ran toward gas tanks (I don't care if their car was there or not).

reply

LOL!! I was thinking the exact same thing! Jesus, if things are exploding around you, run AWAY from the gas station, not towards it and right beside the gas pumps!!!!!

reply

Thank you, I'm glad I'm not the only one. I know my instincts would have taken me the other direction. Cheers.

reply

I thought the same, in fact I was expecting the gas station to explode due to an impact
