John Logan: "Penny Dreadful: City of Angels will have a social consciousness and historical awareness that we chose not to explore in the Penny Dreadful London storylines/ We will now be grappling with specific historical and real-world political, religious, social and racial issues. In 1938, Los Angeles was facing some hard questions about its future and its soul. Our characters must do the same."

It's also going to revolve around Mexican folklore.

It seems like Logan has not only jettisoned the powerhouse cast of the original series but also the premise?

This sounds like Penny Awful. The penny dreadfuls were published in 19th century England. Mexican Brjuos have no place in the tradition of the penny dreadfuls. What’s next? Santaria Dreadfuls? Cabrone, I know more about the arcane than the show runners do.

This sounds like that abomination, The Crow: City of Angels, which was a complete disrespect to The Crow. Prithee, serve the burgeoning Latin market. Make money. Let me ask you this: how many Latins know what the hell a Penny Dreadful is?

That’s what’s known as a rhetorical question.

I’m not watching this spin-off, but you already knew that.

Yeah it also sounds like they are trying to jump on the social justice agenda we see so much in entertainment now.

My feeling is this would be a great time to bring back Ethan Chandler played by Josh Hartnett. Ethan's character was so entrenched in the southern folklore of the Lupus Dei. Most of the beginning of season three took place there and I loved the road trip with he and Hecate. And I agree about the jettisoning of the powerhouse cast they had. I would have loved to have seen both Ethan and Dorian come back in some capacity. But this whole new show sounds "dreadfully" boring.
