A new take on the 1947 classic "Odd Man Out"
"'71" is actually a new take on "Odd Man Out," a 1947 film (in glorious B&W) by director Sir Carol Reed ("The Third Man").
The twist is that a wounded British squadie, rather than an IRA man, must negotiate an alien, hostile territory to find sanctuary. Like "Odd Man Out," "'71" attempts to be even-handed about a highly-charged partisan subject.
"'71" is not inspired by "Black Hawk Down" or Mogadishu but by events that occurred 40+ years ago in Northern Ireland when "The Troubles" resumed ferociously on a full scale.
