It's not that people 'don't want to see it.' It's that no one knows it's out or what theaters it's in
sharethis movie made less than Dope, which was also shown at Sundance
so far Dope has made $14,540,856 and this movie $4,443,117
I don't think Dope had much more promotion than this movie
i was surprised to see this movie was playing at one of the theaters in my city. i was even more surprised to see other people there lol around 20 people in my viewing. this movie's been kept in the down low. i only knew about it because i keep up with olivia cooke's work.
anyways, it was good. i liked the movie. well acted and filmed, and great soundtrack. story was ok. :)

Dope actually had more physical advertising, MEDG was more so word of mouth advertising, using film and book festivals. Also, Dope, opened in over 2000 theaters on day one. MEDG, only opened in 15,now open in under 900 theaters. The TV trailer didn't even release for MEDG, until 3 weeks before, it's release on June 12th.

On Jun 30th, it was in 354 theaters, on Jul 1, 843.
That's +489 theaters, not 700.

I loved the movie. I don't care any longer about how well the movie does. For the few people who saw it, most of us liked it and felt it was well acted; the rest of you filed into the theater like zombies to see Jurassic Whatever. Seems most people can't think for themselves and need to follow others. Whatever. Things that are wonderful usually don't do well. That has been the case for centuries.
shareI agree Modica. This film should be seen on the level of much lesser films such as the Hunger Games and Maze Runner.
This is one of the top movies I've seen this year alongside Sicario and Straight Outta Compton. It was very impressive for an independent film. Like a Wes Anderson film but fresher; not as OCD with characters who seem like real people. From a filmmaking standpoint, this film broke a lot of conventional rules: framing characters on the near side of profile shots, panning around with reckless abandon, etc.
