Why Did Robert De Nero get a Thank You
Hubby & I love watching all the credits. There were a lot of Thank Yous. On the second page at the top, there was a shout out to Robert De Nero. Was he in any of the scenes?

shareThey showed a scene of him in the film "Taxi Driver." There was also a movie poster of his film "Mean Streets" in the main character's bedroom. They parodied "Mean Streets" in one of their films as well.

shareYou don't need a specific reason to thank someone during the credits; that part is meant to acknowledge people that are in some way important to you and it may or may not be related to the film itself. For example, the director could very easily have thanked Pope Francis just for believing he's doing a good job that in some way is having a positive reflection on him, just as much as he could have thanked the deli guy near his house that makes those great sandwiches he likes to eat LOL.
Most times though, I believe it is common to see actors/directors being thanked because the director is a fan, his work is influenced by them, they had a positive impact on him, rather than it having something to do with some scene from the film alone, because even though there was that scene featuring Taxi Driver, the only thing they had to respect was asking the studio who holds the rights for permission to feature a scene (or whatever) from TD and eventually paying for the licensing, no more is needed, but it's understandable why they still were mentioned in the Special Thanks section.
