"platonic relationship w/Thomas Mann" or maybe they said friendship,
But "Platonic!" being the key word, I never heard it described that way about

I am not doubting the "platonic" part you saw, although I could not find it stated on Wikipedia anywhere. According to articles, they are friends, as Olivia Cooke has been dating American actor Christopher Abbott since 2015 (per Wikipedia).
I only say it doesn't matter what Thomas Mann's sexual orientation is, as it does not pertain to the film itself.
I am sure if wants to/feels the need to disclose this information, he will in his own time.
