I Really Hated the First 10 Minutes or so of this Movie
But once it gets going, it's really pretty good.
They made the beginning of Greg and Rachel's friendship just way, way too awkward.

I don't know, I felt like it was a refreshingly honest depiction of how awkward teenagers are. So many shows/movies try to show "awkward" teens and just end up showing awkwardly cute teens where everything ends up good in the end, and I thought this movie was more realistic
shareI have to agree. It was just refreshingly honest and quite an accurate depiction of teens, their sense of humour and anger...what can I say? Titties ?
shareI went back and forth between hating and loving the movie, from one scene to the next... I ended up liking it - but the annoying things about it are REALLY annoying. ("summer, more sum?"; "subhuman state"; the animation for pretty girls; Earl's obsession with 'titties', etc... )
Rachel is the only character that's completely likeable the whole way through... About the time of "A Box of 'Lips, Now", the movie sheds its numerous annoying tics and becomes about something substantial and moving - but I thought it was pretty rough going, until then! If you hang in there, it's all worth it, though.
"Your mother puts license plates in your underwear? How do you sit?!"
I haven't finished watching it but most of the movie is just people talking. So it is a matter of whether the things they say are exceptional. The emotions help but most of it is the words.
The beginning gave me a bad impression because it had words (text) saying "This is where I" something and the "I" is so close to a flagpole that it was hard to see and it was shown for less than a second. Without the ability to rewind I would not have been able to understand what it was saying.
