English Dub any good?

Normally I always go for an original subtitled version as English dubs, especially for anime, usually feature atrocious voice acting and scenes are cut/edited to pieces. Is that true for this anime as well? I don't care that the Japanese version is better I'm just wondering if the dubbed version is hacked to pieces and the translation is a joke?

I work two jobs and don't have much time nowadays to watch TV or movies so I tend to multitask a lot and that doesn't lend itself to starring at the screen 100% of the time while it's on so if I can't hear the characters then I wont be able to watch it at all.

I find two of the main characters, Eren and Armin, to be quite loud and annoying in the dub. It's still watchable though.

It's a mixed bag. The translation is faithful for the most part but they made some puzzling changes for no apparent reason. The biggest problem is the main character, Eren, sounds like a man in his late-30s trying to sounds like a teenager. Armin and Mikasa work well enough. Levi's voice seemed a bit too deep at first but the acting is good so it works. Hange sounds like the director said "Give us your *beep* anime voice!" when she could have been more reserved and more mature-sounding at times.

If I were recommending it to someone to watch for the first time I would definitely go with the sub since the voices are spot-on and the acting really comes across. Funimation is suffering from a shallow talent pool and trying to knock out 24 episodes of material in eight hours of recording session with each VA.

Especially when he's angry or yelling. Normally I like watching dubs but this anime's dub is pretty forgettable..

EDIT: actually Bryce Papenbrook sounded better in SAO and Blue Exorcist. lol wtf happened to his voice in Attack on Titan?

For the most part it's pretty good. Everyone matched the quality of the Japanese versions I felt with one exception, Eren. Eren's dub isn't terrible but doesn't match the character at all and sounds extremely forced at times. Also, the Titan roars are a joke compared to the original roars. So, if you can deal with one below average voice then I think it's worth trying out

Unfortunately that one below average voice is the main character of the series. I understand suspension of disbelief but they have to give us something to work with. That's why I recommended the sub of this series for a first-time viewer. I'm not a sub-over-dub person but in this situation Mike McFarland bungled several key aspects of the dub (including the titan roars) to the point where it shatters the illusion and you realize you're listening to a group of middle-aged voice actors pretending to be children.

Yeah good point. I first watched it dubbed and thought it sounded good. Then I saw the original and went back and my god, what a difference with Eren.

I want to say the best dubbed character is Armin. The worst is Eren which is upsetting because he gets most on screen time. The reason; he just doesn't have that desperation in his voice. Especially when he gets mad, in the dub. The Japanese Eren gets this anger down, SOLID. English, just doesn't seem like he wants to kill every last titan lol.

I'm normally a dub guy, since it's more natural to me that way (even if sometimes the voices are inferior) but the subbed version is nearly perfect. If you only watch the dubbed version, you'll probably be fine

It's good to me. I say both versions are loud and annoying either way tbh.

The advantage of only watching Dubs is I don't waste time comparing.

It's brilliant! you'd never think it was dubbed, par the characters names.
