Other animes/manga to watch??

Hi, guys. I just finished this whole season and I loved it! I've never really watched anime other than Sailor Moon, Ranma, and Doremon as a kid so this was really different. Very dark and gruesome as a cartoon lol.

What other shows do you recommend? I heard Naruto was good but I couldn't get into it.

do IMDB people have nothin better to do? =P

Depends what you're into, really. Cowboy bebop is the standard recommendation for people new to anime. That and death note.

I'm a leaf on the wind. Watch how I soar.

There's Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, Shin Sekai Yori (From the New World), No.6, Blast of Tempest, Rurouni Kenshin, Tokyo Ghoul (this just started, though, but four episodes are on Youtube), Angel Beats, Clannad and Clannad After Story, just to name a few.

Like somebody else said Cowboy Bebop is a good starting anime. I'm also going to recommend Neon Genesis Evangelion (my favorite anime of all time) and Akira. They might be a bit hard to understand, but both are excellent. Both are dark and gruesome at times as well (in a different way than attack on titan)

Here's a few recommendations:

For a visually jaw-dropping series that has defined an entirely new genre and will change your view on a whole lot of things, check out Puella Magi Madoka Magica.

For a futuristic police procedural with very thorough analysis on society, try Psycho-Pass.

For a slow-paced, super-high quality European thriller that delves extremely deep into human psychology and the concepts of good and evil, watch Monster.

And for an absolute tearjerker story with slight supernatural elements about the solitude of an autistic girl, look for AIR.

Also, if you're a fan of Christie-esque classic murder mystery and are ready for a very long journey which is likely to turn your view of the world upside-down, find either the novels or the manga adaptation of Umineko no Naku Koro ni, or When the Seagulls cry. Granted, it's not anime, and definitely not an easy read, but there's no one that I wouldn't recommend it to.

Those are probably my personal Top 5 at the moment. I hope you can find something to your liking! :)

Watch Naruto Shippuden, not regular naruto. There is a big difference. Shippuden is just better. Also watch Full metal alchemist.

Series I'd recommend if you liked Attack on Titan:

Highschool of the DEAD
Hellsing: Ultimate
Guin Saga
3X3 Eyes
Elfen Lied
Berserk
Ninja Scroll (movie)
Princess Resurrection (aka Monster Princess)

Also, this one may not be like AOT, but one of my favorites is Legend of Basara.

I second Neon Genesis Evangelion (the original series, not the movies 'Rebuild of Evangelion'). It's incredible how deep it is, psychologically and emotionally, and the action scenes are SO gripping. And the mechas are a great sight.

Popular ones today are:

Death Parade
Tokyo Ghoul
Aldnoah Zero
Kiseijuu Sei no Kakuritsu

None of these are for kids. These all have dark and gruesome themes.

There's also these two which you've probably heard of:

One Piece
Naruto

So far I've only watched a few but these are my findings -

Death Note. Great idea and some really nice touches but by episode 18 or so it gets quite tiresome with the cat and mouse 'I know that he knows that I know that he knows that I know that he knows I know" stuff.

Overlong and loses momentum. In fact I still haven't got past episode 20 I think.

Gogol 13 - Quite a surprise and even though this is an early manga/anime (whatever) its totally different to the usual teen orientated stuff. The main character is a total man machine, doesn't talk much, cuts to the chase with no monologues. Total mystery. The stories are self contained and sometimes funny and sometimes really dark. Very stripped down presentation and plotting. This makes it more watchable for me. Has a more western approach with its editing.

This is the issue with most anime stuff for me, the lack of the creators 'self-edit' feature. It's like they write a first daft of a script and then stick with that word for word.

Twenty five episodes of anime in the hands of a competent western editor would translate to 18 episodes of better and tighter plotting.
