I've never watched anime but I'm a fan of good TV shows and the plot sounds pretty cool, would you recommend I jump straight into this? (I am aware it has subtitles)

I definitely recommend this show. I myself don't watch a whole lot of anime (I did go through a Pokemon/Yu-Gi-Oh phase as a kid, but what boy didn't?) and this show completely blew me away. If you're trying to get into anime, this is definitely a great starting point!
