Hey, this movie was actually cool.
Great dystopian scifi robot movie. I think any Robot Jox fan would love this.

shareCompared to the first one though?
shareNah. But I didn't love the first one anyhow. It had plenty of it's own problems. This movie to me felt like the sequels to Starship Troopers and Robocop. Lower budget, kind of different, but still enjoyable. Much more of a Mighty Morphin Voltron feel to this one. And I love all that stuff. I thought this movie was great. I'm from the old school of loving shitty direct to video sequels that are shameless cash grabs. I can't stand all this epic Fast n Furious style world building, making every movie bigger and better than the last one. Swap out the stars with B List actors, slap them effects together and crank em out.
shareWish there was a way to give you a "like", a thumbs up, some dap, or something.

That's EXACTLY my thoughts on this film. It occurred to me 1/2 way though to treat this film as the camp it was and then was able to dismiss the flaws and enjoy it.
Too much technical dialogue and language, with a different language subtitled on top of it, too fast to catch up with all that is going on. But I guess one doesn't need to understand everything that is happening in the film.
shareI don't necessarily agree with your assessment in regard to this specific film, because I really found it to be quite disappointing, but I can appreciate the spirit of your post.
I'm always down for a good direct-to-video B-movie or some nonsense like the Resident Evil franchise.
It was way better than the bad feedback I'd seen/heard. It was joyously over-the-top and had fun with the action scenes, which were pretty impressive and numerous (even if they did look more fake than the first movie).
Yes, physics and damage and continuity were ignored every so often, like any movie, and there was some cheese, but honestly this was a little more fun than the first Pacific Rim.
In quite a few of the action scenes, I had to say "DAMN" or some other interjection as the movie kept topping itself with craziness (the good kind).
When Gypsy Danger was pulling buildings down on the big monster near the end, I had to laugh and say "The insurance companies are gonna be pissed!"
Also... Why did that monster go to Mount Fuji? I missed that. I guess it was going to power itself up, absorb the energy?
Thanks

shareHey Froggy, to answer your question: -
Fairly early on, Dr Goblieb stated that combining Kaiju blood with ‘rare elements’ would cause a violent reaction, which formed the basis of his rocket propulsion theory. The Precursors plan was to get the Kaiju to reach Mount Fuji (being an active volcano, the ‘rare elements’ would be present) - it’s large quantity of blood would cause an extinction level event (dust, smoke, nuclear winter). Thus leaving earth ripe for conquest.
Hope this makes sense & helps.
Agreed. Not quite as good as the first one, but a good enough sequel for a fun, over-the-top, robot smashing, popcorn flick.
