Funny moments

Gordon enraged that he can't get through to the head MCI guy:

"You get on the phone right now and you tell Barry Schnellham if I don't have Jon Volpi on the line in the next five minutes, I'm personally gonna drive down to MCI and put my Goddamn face through his Goddamn fist!"

Cameron, describing to Joe the focus group on her game:

"It's like "Altered States" but with market research instead of LSD."

And of course the entire scene with Haley, Joe, and Gordon, when Joe and Gordon want to buy her idea.

Gordon: Look, I thought you were gonna offer her, like, a-a gift certificate to Blockbuster

Joe: You want to low-ball your own daughter?

Haley: I'm crushing your head. Ckk, ckk, ckk, ckk, ckk.

reply

Agreed on the moment with Haley.

It was really was kind of a dick move that Gordon didn't want to give her some real money, considering that they were planning to make some real money from the idea.

If nothing else, then just say most of it has to be put away for college or something.

But yeah, it was funny.

Yeah it was. A gift certificate to Blockbuster? Really?! Come on, Gordo. You'd think he'd be bursting with pride she came up with something that good, all by herself. Based on nothing more than him giving her Joe's URLs to do data entry in Excel.

Joe, overall, came off very well in that scene. He treated Haley almost like an adult, an equal whose idea he respected. His only misstep was having already moved her site to another server, before asking her and her agreeing to any deal.

I think that Joe in general seems to have matured.

He's older now and I think he's also been worn down by life a bit, and that has calmed him down. He's no longer the brash wildcard that he was in Season 1.

I also think that he's found a bit more empathy for other people and he takes more time these days to consider how his actions will affect other people.

reply

Yes Joe had indeed matured. Once you enter your 40's much of your ambition does indeed wane. Not to say a person doesn't have any but it's more subdued...
