what's Disney's plan for Leia in Star Wars: Episode IX?

I'm been wonder what Disney and Lucasfilm plan for Leia in Episode 9. I know they are using unseen footage form TFA & TLJ. I heard they have a lot of footage that going to be use in Episode IX. so I hope it's enough for a good storyline for Leia.

I hope Episode 9 will feel like it's Leia's movie.

If you mean dead and beyond resurection...I think it will๐Ÿ‘

I heard Leia will play a Much larger part in EP IX.

reply

Oh I would bet huge money on it! But that's NOT a good thing๐Ÿ˜‚

reply

why is that not a good thing?

reply

Because it is very difficult to make a movie where a major character is created from discarded footage scavenged from the editing room floor. Blake Edwards tried it...and he had five movies from which to pick from. The end result was...

I'm hoping she dies in the first act...seems logical as we stand where we do. But that was my thoughts for TLJ...and we see where that got us...Carrie Poppins๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‰

Princess Leia is one of the prime reasons I believe star wars has its work cut out for it in 2019๐Ÿ‘

Technology now is lot better then it was in 1980's. so I think the editing will be better and they will make the screens look better and make it look like she is in the movie.

reply

My concern is not with the technology...I believe nothing visual is impossible these days. My concern is the dialogue that is to be used. It will require crafting the story around it (if speculation is to be believed.)
And that feels a restrictive approach to an already daunting challenge.
But...that is where it seems to be.๐Ÿ‘

As Deliciousfeet mentioned, Blake Edwards tried to make a Pink Panther movie after Peter Sellers died using outtakes, deleted scenes, and "flashbacks" from the previous films and the movie is considered a disaster. Chances are, she will only appear in two or three scenes where she makes vague references to Kylo and the First Order while curiously not sharing the same frame as the other actors. Expect Leia communicating via holograms a lot.

They said they wouldn't CGI her and I assume they won't use a voice actress to give her new lines. That means they will need to use old footage of Leia that has a) never been seen and b) fits into the script seamlessly. For instance, even if they splice Leia into a brand new scene and have her interacting with the other characters, they would be using footage that had previously been seen in the deleted scenes of Force Awakens or something, which could look ridiculous even if most fans don't catch it right away. Meanwhile, these new scenes will have to make sense to the movie. The current plot rumor is that the Rebels are searching for damning evidence of the First Order's atrocities so that the galaxy will turn on them. Whatever deleted scenes are out there, it's unlikely they involve Leia talking about any of this. To make matters worse, a lot of her scenes probably involve her discussing the plots of previous movies. You obviously can't have Poe coming in to talk about searching for dirt on the First Order, only for her to turn around and say something about Han going to Starkiller Base. At the end of the day, they'll probably have Leia saying something vague like, "There is still good in Kylo" to Rey in the opening scene, then disappearing for most of the movie, only to show up randomly in another scene to say something vague again such as "We must stop the First Order". I think the initial idea was to focus on Leia but I'm not so certain anymore.

To better illustrate my point, here are two deleted scenes featuring Leia from Force Awakens. Can you see a way to take her performance here and splice her into the next movie?

They had the chance to make something actually half decent across 2 entire films ... but they didn't.

Now they are going to try and shoehorn in random footage and write the 'story' to accommodate this.

It will be a disgrace of a film and a disgrace to Carrie's legacy.

reply

I have high hope that they will do Carrie and Leia justice.

reply

Exactly what i'm expecting. A shoehorned B story that will bear an unfortunate callback to a divisive film, tarnishing what could otherwise be a fresh and exciting new direction. It can only be baggage. Like if in the middle of Revenge of the Sith, we had to take a break and relive some lost adventures of JarJar from Phantom Menace.

One possibility is that she might make an extended appearance as a Force Ghost.

Because Force Ghosts can still interfere with the living, and it's much easier to fake up an appearance from an absent actor if they're floaty and surrounded by blue haze. So maybe she can still do what I've been hoping she'll do all along - humiliate her worthless son into a groveling mess.

reply

By the end it's going to be an army of force ghosts...both light and dark...a never ending battle and that will be the balance to the force we've all heard so much about ๐Ÿ‘

reply

Leia appearance as a Force Ghost? does that mean she died between EP 8 & 9?

reply

Maybe, or maybe her ship blows up in Act 1 of the new film. Either way, she can still appear as a Force Ghost in the next film.

And hopefully she'll confront her useless son, and we'll find out if Force Ghosts can slap a bitch!
