One major cast member is dead and they will have to insert unused footage from previous movies to put that character in and somehow have those scenes make sense to the plot. They did something similar in the last Pink Panther movie. It didn't work. The other classic cast member will be a cameo as a Force-ghost or a flashback more than likely, since he died last time around. Also, that actor does not seem to like the direction of these current films and it seems like the feelings are mutual so who knows how those scenes will turn out.

Two of the new major characters for these movies tend to meander aimlessly through the series because the writers and directors don't seem to know what to do with them. One character was supposed to die early in the first movie, but they brought him back in the climax because they liked him and they then spent most of the second movie talking about how much of an idiot he is. The other new major character keeps having the same storyarc every movie: learning to be brave and facing his former commanding officer. Neither seems to be a fan favorite. The supporting character from the last movie is often cited as the Jar Jar Binks of the new trilogy to the point where even people who love the new series tend to think she's annoying.

The hero of this new series has accomplished all of her goals early on. She has beaten the main villain multiple times, so there is no longer any drama or concern when she faces him for the final showdown. The only other arc she had was finding out who her parents were, which she did in the last movie. There's really no place for her to go.

The guy making this movie was only supposed to do the first one and leave the rest for future directors. They fired the guy who was going to make this movie because it didn't gel with the second director's vision. Except everyone hated that director's vision so they had to get the first guy back.

So yes.
