Why are so many people confused about the plot?

To be honest, I don't actually mind TLJ that much. I think it's sh*t but it almost had no other option following on from TFA; catching all the balls that JJ threw up into the air would have taken a miracle of screenwriting. My best guess at the time would be that RJ would have to just ignore most of TFA and this might give him a chance at making a good film and set things up for an exciting conclusion. What I didn't expect him to do was to bury the story leaving it nowhere to go for IX. I'm not sure if this is deliberate or not....? RJ getting his sweet revenge on JJ for handing him off such a load of crap? I'd like to think so.

If you want more specific points then there's plenty of posts explaining the myriad issues. I'd suggest you read those with an open mind and don't just retreat into "people who disagree with me are idiots" as that is the argument of a weak mind.

what's wrong with the movie ?? are you serious ? sigh, the plot is tedious , do you find it exciting seeing a space chase for 1 hour until they ran out of fuel ? the stupid jokes , pointless plots , canto bight was just pointless , super abilities , poe can disarm a dregnaught all by himself , BB8 can climb into the cockpit of a ATST, he can also knock out police officers using coins , Luke kills himself just to bide a bit more time ????? Luke goes into hiding and is unwilling to do anything to help his sister but has fought against evil at all costs in the past, pointless skim speeder scene , what on earth were they hoping to achieve against all those at ats, swear words, bastard spunk , big ass , holdo not telling poe about the plan ? why not ? it was a terrible star wars movie , completely dismisses questions set up in TFA, snoke, rey , the light saber , the knights of ren, RJ just tried to make an indie film
