Will it do another 100 million???

I guess it could...R1 did another 80 or so after its 20th day...guess the big question is...how does Disney view a 1.2-1.4billion dollar take compared to TFA 2.1?

reply

I'm sure they don't view it favorably.

reply

You spend much of your time measuring your genitals, don't you?

reply

Well...it does take a LONG time to do it!!!😱

reply

Your first sentence was great, but you should have left it there. Much more impact if left simple, but it did get a laugh out of me.

reply

Much better!

reply

Since it will probably be the biggest box office draw of the year, I think they will be ok with it.

reply

Ah...modern editing techniques! And you burk are a fine example of how Marcia Lucas held the reigns of the sometimes off the rails George Lucas...every creative mind needs a practical person to give suggestions of restraint...I thank you...and agree!

reply

I feel it can do both...succeed...and disappoint...

reply

It definitely doesn't seem to appeal to the hardcore fans, but people are buying tickets. Truthfully, they probably always will. I think the Transformer movies illustrate it best, because NONE of them were very good, but they make a ton of money. The latest SW installments are miles ahead of those crapfests, so Disney doesn't need to worry. I think oversaturation will be more of an issue than fan outcry.

reply

Coming from someone that purchased an obscene amount of stock on spec...and has more than doubled his original stake due in part to the Star Wars acquisition...I can tell you that an approximate difference of 800 million between installments is getting my attention! Not to say it gives reservations about the stock as the parks and networks comprise the lion share of its success...but it does stand to tarnish the newly added crown jewel of the company. So while the hurt may be marginalized...I fail to see how it will help in any fashion...

it will probably end up around 1.3b ww

I think Disney was expecting 1.5-1.7b WW, so below expectations, but still ok

I feel what you have posted here..may be illegal...

reply

Since it was directed at me...may I ask what it said? The illegal component has my curiosity peaked 😯

reply

Just a link for illegal streaming of current films, no big deal.

reply

Oh...how pedestrian 😐

reply

While I agree that what Lucasfilm expected is the key to the full picture...the headline in my opinion is an 800 million dollar divide between TFA and the TLJ. I also just read an article about a 47% drop in merchandise proceeds over the last year...that seems steep, but I must admit to being leery of an investment in a flicks merchant until it proved out...just decided to pass on a rather cool Kylo hologram funko pop that is exclusive to Target this week...oh well😐

reply

the merchandise drop is misleading as toys r us filed for bankruptcy, but the drop is bad, but not that bad

reply

I suppose it depends on what the expectation was. I have to think that they didn't expect it to make as much as TFA. However if it comes at the lower end at 1.2 Billion that is like 900 million drop, that is a lot even if they had reasonable expectations.

Question is, Part IX, under a billion? or does the Star Wars name alone keep it Billion plus release?

reply

Exactly!

reply

If Solo sucks, Episode IX will do Justice League numbers or worse.

reply

[deleted]

Well they really didn't love TFA...and it's looking like they like this one about half as much sooo...

reply

The only reason TFA made over 100m in China was because Disney went overboard in marketing there. After R1 flopped there, i think they cut there losses and accepted it will make whatever it makes in China. Still a pathetic number, as most Hollywood blockbusters do 100m+ in China.

reply

Domestic: It made $30m on four weekdays, so almost $100m this week, another $200 by month end.
It will gross over $1.5b internationally.

Liars may figure...but figures never lie...

And you Satan are a figurer😯

84 million is NOT close to 100 million...the devil is in the details...and 15+ million feels bigger than a detail😂

Nice unclickable link that does not lead to the dailies for either film that would be required to do any comparisons...you tricky little devil!!!

TLJ will need to bank over 300 million just to achieve 1.5billion...I do not see how that is possible with the tracking info available...but let's say it happens...that would still be a 600 million dollar difference between TFA and TLJ....but go ahead and tell me they are pleased by that...I know...just like 84 is close to 100...1.5 I is close to 2.1...right?
