Not to have any short of financial lost. Far from that. It already broke past even a while ago. But to just not perform as much strongly like TFA, let alone to exceed that kind of expectation. TFA did super well because it was the first time for a new Star Wars movie to have any big screen debut in ages, with all of the main OT cast back on screen too. The hype behind it was there. TLJ on the other hand did okay for higher expectations. The w.o.m. seem to have slow its momentum down a bit.

That's not a judgement on TLJ, but an observation that this year, there is legitimate alternative for those whose Star Wars shows are sold out or who have seen TLJ and want to see something else.
That doesn't make sense. Jumanji is doing well because a lot of people are going to see it instead of Star Wars. Saying people are going to see Jumanji because it's "doing well" is just circular logic.

He does not "have a point." The point is that Star Wars is not doing as well as expected, relative to Jumanji. All he was doing was obscuring the issue.
The "factual box office data" actually supports that point, the point of the topic, which certain people are trying to derail with their usual tactics.
It wasn't a "point". It was an observation and I willfully avoided extrapolating any conclusions. You can always count on the knee-jerk keyboard warrior-trolls to spin any information to confirm their bias.
For me, I'm glad to see that Jumanji is having success and showing studios that Star Wars doesn't need to be the only blockbuster over the Christmas/New Year's holidays.
I got your intentions there. It's also worth noting that in 2019, Episode IX will also be competing with a movie premiere of Wicked. And, to be fair, both movies like Jumanji and Wicked were the first to have those December release dates while TLJ and Episode IX both started out with a release date in May.
shareIf Wicked performs similar to Les Mis, into the Woods and The Greatest Showman, it's not likely to be $200M+ valid alternative except for a much smaller niche audience.
