Yeah, him, Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda can all smile inanely at Mary Sue after she's defeated the First Order and brought peace to the Galaxy...for 30 years.

In a post, I suggested that he may not be dead. He could've ported off the island instead of died. In an earlier scene, some water drops ported off the island from Rey's hand to Ren's so obviously matter can transport distances using the Force.

I think Leia and Rey's conversation that they felt his passing suggests something more than teleportation.

Maybe. Rey said she felt "peace and purpose" which doesn't necessarily mean death. It could mean Luke no longer blames himself re: Ren and he has a new purpose to fight the New Order. Who knows? Apparently, clues and foreshadowing means zip in this trilogy.
