Wait, didn't Phasma's suit deflect a laser?
Why on earth didn't they make the storm trooper armour out of the same thing?
Well, it is following the tradition of unshielded TIE Fighters as compared to Vader's shielded TIE Advanced.

shareGood point. I think the Tie Fighters/Interceptors were built for speed, maneuverability and better weapons. The sacrifice was the shielding.
