They better not make Luke a comic relief character

Given the terrible Marvel humor in the Force Awakens, I really hope they don't turn Luke into a goofball character. I can just see them trying to replicate the crazy yoda introduction on Dagobah, but just replacing him with Luke.

haha never thought of that. JarJar Luke?

It honestly wouldn't surprise me lol

no such thing as marvel humor in sw. have you seen the original sw. that's the humor.

There was definitely Marvel humor in the Force Awakens. The opening scene when Poe and Kylo are face to face and he says "Who talks first? Do you talk first? Do I talk first?" That was very Marvel to me and not Star Wars. Then there's other lines like "Droid please" and "Do you have a cute boyfriend?" In fact the Finn character had a couple lines that made me think of Marvel. I don't know if it's the lines or the delivery but they did not feel very Star Warsy

That exact sarcasm could have come right from Han's mouth in the original trilogy. The Finn lines, yeah I can understand your point with those.

I guess it was maybe more of the delivery of Poe's line that made me cringe

Even when Luke was young and chipper, he never had much of a sense of humor. So I totally agree that now that he's older and sadder, possibly tragic, humor would NOT work for him!

But I don't think the writers would be that stupid. Han and Leia had all fun lines in the original films, Leia still has one more film in which to smart off, and now Finn and Poe can provide touches of unintentional and intentional humor, respectively. There's no need to try to force humor onto Luke.

Mark Hamill's sincere but awkward acting in the OT made Luke a source of derision many times.

I think his sincere-but-awkward acting was perfect! He WAS the gormless kid from the bassackwards end of the Galaxy!

At least in the first two fims, I never really bought his transition to the serious young Jedi. Of course I've only had a glimpse if him in his current incarnation, but it was such a perfect glimpse that I'm early looking forwards to seeing more of a mature Luke.
