That is not definite. She could be unrelated. Nothing is set, TFA pretty much left everything up in the air. Or a better analogy; star Wars was a Vase, JJ and Disney shattered it and left it in millions of pieces. Now going forward the next filmmakers have to try to put the pieces back together but it will never look the same. Now some might say that it was already in pieces because of the PT, I disagree; the vase maker just tried painting it weird colors with the PT; it was not broken like it was with TFA.
Also going this route with Kylo would make him the center of the story, which would undermine 'do it all herself' Rey.
