How did Joe Alywn land the lead role?

He's a real unknown who landed the role of a potential Oscar film filled with talented and popular actors. I'm just surprised Ang didn't cave to studios and try to give the lead role to an A-list actor. It's better for an unknown kinda like when Jolie cast Charlie o' Connell in Unbroken

Joe Alwyn is theatre actor and this is his first film role. maybe Ang Lee had seen him performing live and casted him i don't know

Interesting i did not knew it. He seems will have a good year with Billy Lynn and Sense of Ending.

Never mind that, why is Krisren Stewart top billed?

reply

maybe for Box Office or her role is important i know she has limited screen time but maybe she has significant part

reply

I thought he cast an unknown for life of pi Either way it's better to cast an unknown instead of reusing washed up actors. Sometimes you wanna see a new face! Just like how every time I see Vin Diesel in the movie I'm gonna think "What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be racing someone?"

reply

I agree.they should be given a chance to new faces... Sometimes

reply

He cast an unknown for Life of Pi too. As far as this one having him surrounded by a bunch of A-listers, it's really a nice contrast that many films have done before.

Um...you know...by auditioning ?
