Not surprised. I didn't have very high expectations and I'm flustered as to why people were hyping it up so much. Ang lee is hit or miss, the writer has nothing to their name, and the cast leaves something to be desires. I don't necessarily expect a flop, but I'd be surprised if it was anything better than good.

reply

Yeah, the early reviews are not looking good. Frankly, I am surprised.

reply

I usually love Ang Lee movies so I had been looking forward to this one. Does sound very disappointing.

reply

The reviews are mostly negative about the frame rate...not the story...

reply

... well that's incredibly disappointing, looks like La La Land is going to waltz right into best picture. Unless Silence pulls a very unlikely quick run

reply

Dude its too early to tell... what a dumb statement.

this time last year everyone had Spotlight etched in for Best Picture coming out of TIFF... look what happened

reply

The oscar movie I am most looking forward for, is Gold.

reply

Yeah, it won best picture like people at TIFF predicted...

Raging Bull = Best movie

reply

At least Spotlight actually deserved Best Picture.

reply

I was expecting this to be pretty good. Very sorry to hear this.

I am genuinely surprised. I have been keeping an eye on comments on Awardswatch. I don't have much time for a lot of people who post there, since their personal comments about actors and film makers seem more suited to the TMZ comment section, but I was under the impression that they have at least some insider information. I haven't read up on this lately, but it seemed to be a forgone conclusion that it would be awards worthy. Opening at 14% on RT is shocking.

I was never convinced by this project to be honest. Excited about Ang Lee and the cast but the story never got me like "OMG this will be amazing!". Too bad for the ones involved.

reply

Surprised by negative reviews. I saw it Sunday night and thought it was terrific and really powerful. Exceptionaly done with a lot to say. Well acted. Totally engrossing. Will be hailed in 50 Yeats if not today.

44% Tomatoemeter by 16 critic. I was looking forward to this one all year.

Almost every movie Garret Hedlund is in seems to have low/average ratings.
