No 120FPS 4K 3D For Opening Weekend? 11/18

I was going to buy tickets for this film, but it seems that AMC is carrying this film only, but it's not showing as 120FPS 4K 3D. Maybe they'll update their showings next week, but is it going to be released in that format at any movie theater chain or just "special theaters?" Do theaters need special equipment to screen that film?

Where were you looking to see it, the only two places showing it this weekend are the two US sites (Lincoln Square in NYC and Cinerama Dome in LA) playing the 120/3D/4K format. There will be a few other places for that format overseas but it requires custom built projectors and roughly a million dollars per location to play this movie in that format, so Sony let those theaters get the film a week early.

There will be 120/2K/3D and 120/2D sites along with standard formats when the film goes wide next weekend.

I was hoping to see it at my local theater. It's a Marcus Cinema. They have the Ultrascreen, Superscreen, and the 4DX theater. They showed The Hobbit in 48FPS. So, I thought they would be able to show it in 120FPS 2K 3D at least.

I actually just saw the movie at the Cinerama Dome followed by a Q & A with Ang Lee. He talked about the various frame rates that the movie would be screening in after this week and I believe he said that the 120fps 2K version would not be in 3D. I got the impression that he preferred the 60fps 3D version over that version. Not sure if that version will be in 2K or 4K. There will also be the traditional 24fps 2K formats and he might've mentioned a few other formats.

For what it's worth I thought the 120fps 4K 3D looked really impressive. I hope they end up showing it in other theaters.
