I immediately assumed this was a remake of the excellent Lee Marvin movie and decided it was not worth watching - how could it be, the original is a classically great film.

I watched it. Nothing special about this movie. It is a below average thriller.

Its not a remake of that film, its a remake of another film with the same name. Your instincts are correct though.
