The part where the young deputy gets split in half through his anus and pulled apart by his legs, then his intestines and inards drop out was disgusting. I am all for gruesome but this was just disgusting and a little overboard. I've seen real life videos on the internet not even that disgusting.
It seems they lost ideas for the ending and all they could think of is to make it extremely gruesome.
No that was a very calculated scene. It let everyone know at the same time exactly what they were dealing with. Stories have a way of being blown out of proportion, and thus people take them with a pinch of salt. At that moment, both the characters and the audience knew these things were not *beep* around.

I agree that the scene was pretty extreme. Splatter gore galore! Also unrealistic - they simply tear the rest of him apart haha. And it would be impossible to hack through pelvic bone. Maybe with a super sharp samurai sword but not with a bone axe. And THEN there is the hole spine. Humans just don't fall apart like that :D

It was gruesome but based on certain torture devices that were used in Europe way back when, on this basis alone I didn't find it all over the top. But, yeah...gruesome. Very gruesome.
